Beatrice lacey

Beatrice has a long family tradition and connection her with portrait studios and Hastings
her art practice has been a journey into her childhood memories as being her fathers portrait model in his hastings studio.

Beatrice first moved into the building in 2005 and worked at developing the 2nd floor into a working art gallery showing local artists artworks and holding workshops and events,

the top studio was for a while taken by a musician singer named Helen Shepherd and A ceramic artists Robin Muckle and Viv Albertine
of Slits fame .
After they all vacated, Beatrice took over the tenancy 2012, Since then she has been using it as a painting and photography studio, with a small gallery attached ,
Beatrice can be visited by appointment and is always happy to show interested people around.

after a couple of attempts to create a project which creates a portrait of the building, beatrice realised the project far too big for herself alone and invited Alex Brattell and Toby Shaw to collaborate with a plan to bring this iconic building back to life and be seen for what it is.

" i feel like i am helping to create a portrait of a building, bringing it out of the shadows and releasing its ghosts."
